DAISY Award
Logan Regional Medical Center Nomination for the Daisy Awards
Logan Regional Medical Center is partnering with the national DAISY foundation to bring the DAISY award for extraordinary nurses to Logan Regional Medical Center.
The DAISY award (an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System) rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day. The award was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, a Seattle, WA, patient that died from and autoimmune disease in recognition of the nurses who cared for him. There are more than 2,000 DAISY award partners worldwide.
LRMC Nurse Management committee developed the DAISY criteria, nomination process, and recognition activities for the hospital. The award recognizes a nurse (RN or LPN) identified as giving that extraordinary care that is so valuable to patient care. The following criteria have been developed by the committee as a guide for the nomination process.
- Passion/compassion for nursing and the care provided
- Empathy, or understanding of the patient/family feelings
- Trust and teamwork with patients, families, and co-workers
- Love for the patient and nursing
- Attentive to the patient and family
- Displays L.R.M.C. core values of listening, respect, compassion, and managing safety
Nominations will be reviewed by a committee and the nurse selected to receive the award will be chosen by this committee every three months. All nominations will receive a DAISY pin to recognize those who display those characteristics that make the care they provide so special to our patients. The winner will also receive a pin in addition to a DAISY award certificate, and a hand-carved sculpture entitled "A Healer's Touch". The nurse's unit will also receive special recognition and enjoy a celebration including cinnamon rolls, a favorite of Mr. Barnes' during his illness.
Anyone can nominate and extraordinary nurse (RN, LPN) for the DAISY award. Patients, families, visitors, physicians, or employees are encouraged to share their story of the nurse that provided that exceptional care. Nomination forms are located on each nursing unit, each nursing secretary, the ED registration area, and the lobby of the main hospital. Or the nomination can be completed and submitted on our Logan Regional website.
Thank you for taking the time to complete a nomination and allowing us to recognize our nurses that provide that extraordinary care. The DAISY program allows us the opportunity to give back to our top nurses who works so hard and give so much to our patients each day.
